The ECG Monitor is a new hero, detecting an abnormal heartbeat rhythm leading to Atrial fibrillation or AFib. This is a condition that can cause blood clotting, stroke and heart failure.

According to KIRO-TV in Seattle (via Apple Insider), Apple Watch Series 4 has once again helped the owner. This unnamed man had previously been diagnosed with AFib and his heart was beating normally. Then, he was taken action to immediately be given blood thinners.

Phil Massey, a cardiologist with the Pacific Medical Center in Seattle, said the man came to the office with Apple Watch Series 4 and showed the doctor the ECG results he had recently brought with the tool. Massey said he agreed with the watch that the AFib had returned, and the man was not given blood thinners. Cardiologists say that Apple Watch can be credited with saving the man’s life.

The story starts as Toralv falls in the bathroom, and his Apple Watch automatically contacts the rescue officer.

So, once your Apple Watch detects crashed and the user hasn’t moved for a minute after it’s crashed, that device sends a message to the local emergency service, along with information about the location.

Then, about half an hour after falling, rescue workers came and found Toralv lying on the bathroom floor, unconscious and bloody. He also suffered three facial fractures in the accident.

The fall detection feature on Apple Watch is obviously geared towards older people and as a result, is inactive by default unless the user is 65 years old or older.
